Home electronics manufacturers will gladly tell lies about their products if they know audiophiles will believe them and buy the products because of them. I'm sure there are plenty of unscrupulous marketers and gullible consumers in photography as well.
I find it very suspicious that nearly every manufacturer has MTF charts in their advertising material, but not whatever the equivalent for microcontrast would be.
