>>3193458well it's a bit of hairy thing this data set
to have a nice equal comparison I eventually had to filter out mis-registered objects, so lenses that don't have the Elements field, or that have no registered weight, etc
this isn't that bad since it tends to happen with fairly old models that nobody really knows of anymore or can't find except for very rare x-th hand cases on ebay
hence the "everything decreased"
moving on, a series of distribution graphs, starting with weight
since these might seem a bit abstract without anything to compare them to as reference, I included notes for (what I think to be) 2 failry popular kitlenses:
the Sony E 16-50mm and
the Nikon 18-55mm
also because the sony is tiny and the nikon is on the bigger size of kitlenses that people already are familiar with
a bit of discussion around pic related:
- as expected, Canon, Pentax and Nikon mount lenses are on the heavier side, and for Canon EF and Nikon F (FX) mounts there is the greatest variety in weight (notice how 'flat' the distribution line is)
- just about all Leica M lenses are in the 200-400 g range
- mounts for mostly mirrorless systems like Fuji, Sony E, and MFT are on the lighter side
naturally there's heavier lenses than 2.5kg but for ease of visualization I capped those off
the heaviest lenses in the set are:
