It takes Minolta MD and MC SR-mount lenses. it uses alkaline batteries, so you don't have to search for weird cells and adapters for mercury ones. it's an electronic shutter and aperture priority. it also has a fully manual mode but without a meter. it was Minolta's entry level slr camera at the time and so are overlooked now- my winning bid on that camera/lens combo on ebay was around $10. there are other models in that series that added more features: the XG-7, the XG-M, and eventually the X-700.
fun fact- recent gold medal decathlon winner in the 1978 olympics, Bruce Jenner was the spokesperson for that camera
