>>4013792>>4013809If you don't have fancy gear with good auto focus you can increase your chances of getting a good shot by increasing your depth of field with a narrower aperture as well as pre focusing in the area you think the bird will pass through.
Anticipating the birds actions can help too, so that you're set and ready before the bird takes off or lands.
Also I find that staying ready with your eye in the viewfinder and finger on the shutter helps your chances too. I've had a quite a few times where I've been watching a bird and put my camera down for a second to see if any other birds look like they're gonna do something, only for that bird to take off or do something else interesting while I'm not ready.
