Looks like I might be able to simply copy the files to any HDD (I have many), and then Lightroom can simply do the "Add" Import instead of "Copy" Import. Lightroom simply does not like editing on files that are on a SD Card. It's still a pain but it's better than having to copy 40GB to my boot drive.
