I was on a coastline 3 years ago, underneath a low fir tree and watching an osprey fishing. It knew I was there (tree was in case anything else came along) and I couldn't get any shots because I just had my cheap 70-300 with me. After a few hours, four young horned owls flew down the coast to my left, followed by an adult. They landed maybe 150 feet away, around a corner.
I moved down the coast, using the waves to cover my sound. Crept right up behind them, and saw they were playing around on some driftwood. I got 5 shots before they even knew I was there due to the noise. Then I got a few more during the panic as they all realized.
Stop resisting reality, man. Birds are fallible.
