>>4003283>Isn't this essentially swaggering by saying they have nicer things than anyone else?Problem? Nice things are nice. People buy a Tesla and share that on their social networks, but they don't buy it for "swaggering". It's a nice car to drive, too.
>a gearfag and not a photographerYou seem to have a very high bar for a "photographer", what is it? In my view, average modern photographer is a button pusher and screen tapper, who knows few a composition techniques but no visual design, learned exposure triangle, but never held a bottle of fixer, and some of them produce magnificent pictures. Most make private family and travel snapshits that you will never see.
>focused on consuming and spending money>who are here to consume first and produce second, and photographers, who are here to produce first and consume secondThis is a professional vs hobbyist distinction. Spending money on gear means you are a consumer, that's true. If you later make any money from output, this makes you a producer. If you don't make money and put photos in a family album on or /p/, you are still not a producer, but a regular person enjoying their hobby, a consumer.
>you're swaggering to make up for some fundamental insecurityI've never seen a community more insecure about basic gear than photographers. The type of people I see the most are pretentious pricks who consider themselves professionals and artists, but actually don't participate in the industry and don't make any money. Just enjoy their hobby and it's all right. But they also hate their own role as a hobbyist and insist that people that honestly admit their part should not have good gear. This projection is very transparent and it's everywhere, /p/, reddit, and photography specific forums.
