Personally I find 25mm a little restrictive as my widest FL; distance-to-subject can change the subject proportions a lot, and I cycle between 15-45mm (MFT) a lot. 25/42.5 is definitely a very usable combo though. Very subjective.
>low lightThe effectiveness in low-light is determined by the widest f-stop (smallest number), because the f-stop is a ratio of the aperture diameter to the focal length i.e. a 50mm f/2 has an aperture diameter of 25mm. Bigger aperture = more light and shallower depth-of-field. People say primes are better at low light because for the same price, a prime can be designed for a wider aperture.
