Also, when practicing I don't mind wasting film, my costs are half your estimate anyway, especially B&W.
But I can't take 350 shots "casually" when "fucking around" even with digital. Because it's not about cost; I have to think at least for a bit, and take at least a bit of time composing, and still find something at least a bit interesting before pressing the shutter. I can't do that 350 times within a couple hours of just walking around. The only way to do that, would be to either think less, or press the shutter more often after raising the camera to my eye, even when I'm not happy with what I see. I don't believe either of those approaches are gonna lead to better photos, barring the exceptional happy accident every now and then.
