You've got a few issues going on; 35mm is really an inappropriate focal length for copy work, and you aren't stopping down enough.
Getting further away, with a 50 or 100mm, will improve your alignment of the sensor and film parallel to one another, the longer focal length will decrease your depth of field, and thus improve the quality of your backlighting, and the working distance will make you a much happier camper. Also, those lenses will be sharper. The 50's have less distortion and no CA, the 100's have no distortion, better field flatness and higher resolution.
