digital image sensor consist not of pixels as most of the people think but subpixels. camera never produce COLOR; camera produce 4 BW images which is basically just mould of the light (ray of photons) passed through 4 filters RGGB red green green blue. CPU calculates value from each subpixel to one COLORED image. so one cell is subpixel which is percipient to light and reacting with electric impulse. impulses from 4 nearest subpixels calculated into one pixel of an image with RGB values. each cell or subpixel is a cell with chemicals reacting to light with eletric impulse. after being filtered with RGGB filters we get 4 values. it's processed with CPU to one pixel of an image with RGB values. so basically we get 4 different BW images. each of them is mould of the light (ray of photons). then it's calculated to one single COLOR IMAGE. so basically if camea capturing not COLOR images but BW images - camera just get 4 moulds of light. and this mould is consist of power of signal which provide electric impulse. due to signal provided by amount of light we basically get amount of photons (subatomic particles or quants) bombarding atoms of chemicals which is sensor's cell filled with. so, if you know how math works, you can now realise that the more chemicals lies into cell the more photons it can react with. so signal become 2x more powerfull with fullframe comparing to apsc and 4x more powerfull comparing to MFT. complete easy, isn't it?
