They usualy tend to have wide angle lenses, roughly equivalent to a 24-28 mm lens on a full-frame camera.
For portrait the absolute minimum you want is 50 mm equivalent because wide angle lenses have huge parallactic distortion.

The other problem is that phone cameras tend to suck and you probably don't know anything about post-processing.
