It's only been maybe five or six years since the first portrait modes started appearing on cellphones, and they're already good enough that most people (IE, people who aren't photography nerds) can't tell the difference at a casual glance. Catching fine details like flyaway hairs--which are the current main giveaways of fake bokeh--is probably just a matter of throwing more processing power, resolution, and machine learning at the task, all of which will fall to the inexorable march of Moore's Law.
