I've had mine for a couple years. Originally used it as a sort of always on me pocket wide angle to complement my main camera. Nowadays I bring it out solo much more often, especially on travel. I got my first spec of dust recently but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. I ran the dust removal command a few times and that seems to have done the trick. Upper right of picrel is what it looked like.
This is the only place I've seen people say that it isn't pocketable. I find it fits in my pocket better than an average phone does. If you don't want to put it in your pocket, the GC-9 holder is good if you can still get them. Mine is usually around my wrist anyway since it isn't doing much good sitting in a pocket.
Snap focus is worth spending time with. Once it's set up to your liking you can fire off shots like nothing else. Snap focus + back button focus for close up stuff + touch to select focus point is an insanely powerful combo.
A few other miscellaneous things.
- You'll need a second battery bare minimum. Ideally a third battery.
- Get a 3rd party three battery charger.
- The command dial is extremely easy to spin. Nice when flicking through photos, not so nice when you accidentally bump the exposure comp +1 without realizing it.
- The lens mechanism and ibis must emit some crazy high frequency sounds because I've seen this camera freak out a lot of animals.
- Mine has turned off randomly a handful of times.
- Swap the stock wrist strap for one of the Wii remote ones that have a locking clip.
- Low light autofocus is no good. Getting good at guesstimating the distance with snap focus is your best bet.
- Distance is always in meters.
- positive film, negative film, and high contrast b+w are all awesome.
- I use macro mode a lot more than I thought I would.
This is all for the GRiii btw. Never used the iiix.
