They're an affordable way to try your hand at MF, fun to use if you're tired of automation holding your hand, and surprisingly pocketable when folded. It also sends old people into nostalgia autism. My main gripe is the very limited selection of shutter speeds with the Vario shutter (1/25, 1/75, 1/200).
