To those not understanding why resolution of an imperfect imaging system such as camera+lens can be capped: a product of a series system of elements with values between 0 and 1 (such as MTF, which is measured in %, at select lines/mm density) results in a value =<1. It cannot be higher than the value of the weakest element either. If you have a dslr with a 0.5 at 100 l/mm and a lens with a 1 at 100 l/mm, then the lens out-resolves the dslr and getting a better lens won't help, the resulting MTF would be 0.5. Likewise, once you get a 1 from a dslr and <1 from a lens, getting a better camera won't improve your results. You can't go above the cap imposed by the weakest element. It's that simple.
