>>3961854Well, here's where I'm at. The reason I bought my K50 back in 2013 was because I'm
>>>/out/, and it's the only proper brand that has cameras rated for sub-freezing operation and full weather sealing at entry-level, plus the best shock ratings. To get that in Nikon/Canon you have to start above the $1500/$2k price point. My K50, and Pentax lenses, have all survived blizzards and downpours without even a hint of a malfunction. So I was on board.
Started getting more into /p/ and bought more lenses, etc. Now I've upgraded modestly to the KP which I'm even happier with, and fairly invested in Pentax lenses. I absolutely love Pentax and have no desire to buy-out to anything else. I don't just love the basics, but the interface and ergonomics and the fact that I can still stand under a frozen waterfall in mid-January (North America) and take photos without worrying about the camera being damaged.
As far as the gigantic 14mm lens goes, I have the 10-17mm Pentax fishie which is close to my favourite lens but it's not rectilinear. I'm trying to get more into realistic nightscapes, landscapes, and video walkthroughs without the distortion and THIS is the lens to get for Pentax. You can get a similar Rokinon for cheaper but it doesn't allow for ND filters which I need for video. You can get a Pentax 15mm for cheaper but same problem, can't attach filters and even that one has more barreling than the 14mm.
I'm just trying to enhance my kit and have more fun and a better scrapbook rather than reinvent the wheel and start over. I've done a ton of research into the 14mm and it's engineered perfectly for what I need, and I'm going to use the shit out of it especially with camping season (Australia) just starting.
Also, about 4 years ago I walked into my local camera shop with my K50 and the owner spied it and said "hey - most underrated camera out there. I worked for Nikon for 25 years and the day I retired I bought that exactly camera as a retirement gift"
