>>3773410>How come all leica owners i know irl keep telling me to get one thenBecause they really enjoy shooting with a Leica and assume that that will be the case for everyone when it definitely is not. It's a common mistake a lot of people make when giving recommendations. It's like telling someone they have to try skydiving because of what a rush it is--you might have thought it was the greatest experience of your life, but there's no chance in hell I'm gonna jump out of a perfectly good airplane.
People who like shooting with a Leica M like it in large part *because* of how primitive it is. When I'm shooting with my M, I feel more connected with the process simply because of how many more choices I'm being forced to make and how much more attention to the detail it requires of me. When my goal is "Get the best pictures I can with the minimum effort", I reach for my 5D with pro-level autofocus, incredible ergonomics, an extremely good modern sensor that still looks great a high ISOs, etc. When my goal is "Go out and enjoy the process of photography", I reach for my Leica M9, a camera that I have to manually focus, which has the ergonomics of a lightly-sanded brick, where the LCD is so shit I can barely tell if I got the shot in focus when I zoom to 100%, and which looks pretty shitty at ISOs over 800. But there's something about it that just feels good when I'm shooting, and I still really like the photos I get out of it, and I don't ever feel like I wasted my money having bought it.
If none of that appeals to you, then definitely don't buy a Leica. They aren't for everyone. It's in no way a value judgement one way or the other.
