Looking for a small compact external mic for my Nikon D5500. Not shooting interviews or anything, it doesn't need to be amazing. I literally just need something to record ambient sound and NOT the horrible sounds of camera plastic being groped and moved, clipping and ruining the audio every time. On-board audio for Nikons was obviously not a priority but it's so useless it might as well not even be there.
Most external mics I see that clip onto the top are shotgun mics, but I don't need just the audio directly in front of the camera. Worried something like that wouldn't be right for me. Are there any decent omni-directional options? And not to be picky but preferably something smaller than pic related.
