As you can see, the original image is definitely blown the fuck out, by anyone's definition.
With a -2 Exposure and a +1 X3 Fill light, quite a bit of accurate colour info, and a huge amount of texture can be dragged back out of what seem to be straight white.
Of course the resulting image is pretty ugly, with gross halos that get worse the harder you push the X3 slider, but that's an extreme example, and if you have any idea what you're doing, which you should if you're using this camera, it can be really useful.
