With those sweet video cameras that came out in the last days it made me think if videography is a better hobby than photography. What's your motivation to do it? I was thinking a lot about it today. Ever since a kid I always preferd watching those VHS tapes that my parents recorded back than instead of looking at photo albums. I could hear myself talking as a kid, see my movements, etc. so magical. It's like a travel in time. Photos always felt less alive. I think some years ago photography was really the way to go as you could shoot endless amount of photos, because they don't take much storage. Hardware was worse but good enough to edit still images. But now storage is dirt cheap, all modern computers can process video files. Hipsters are still busy shooting stills with their 10k Leica Ms and uploading on instagram. Almost no one is uploading pro videos.
I have such an urge to buy a Nikon Zr, throw on a 50mm apo lens and do some Ozu Yasujirō style short movies of my family and kids. Trying to recreate those masterpieces. How amazing would it be to watch them for my kids when they grow up. Much more than the 10000 photos I shoot per year.
Is this the enlightenment? Am I on the right path? Should I bury my Leica Q and buy the Zr?
