>>2573065>>2572524Also, if you want to - you don't need to buy a ton of lenses, you could buy a single wide-zoom (like a 24-105, or a 24-70) or a few zooms (18-35 + 24-70) to cover the range you like to use if you don't want to go with primes. But a small set of Primes offer better quality, speed, & control over the cost of convenience (full prime kits can go anywhere from $500 to $6000 for stills mounts [goes much higher if you go into Cine glass]).
>>2572794I know that feel bros.
Scheduling is a bitch (this is why I'm the asshole who tends to schedule night time/weekend shoots for shorts, also:makes you appreciate ADs).
To add to
>>2572890, A great Directing teacher I had re-purposed ABC ("Always Be Closing") towards Casting, ALWAYS BE CASTING. Go to a local Acting Class/Workshops (talk to the teacher first and let them know your intentions), even better if they are at Community Colleges/Schools, it will help you communicate to actors as well as meet actors (Actors who are still in training are great to work with as they are very enthusiastic and are eager to do well). It's a learning experience for everyone involved. Write/Rewrite with Actors you know in mind. It helps.
Bro,
>>2572913 I know the feeling. What you need to do is give him the attitude that it'll always get better (if anything, look at the Career of Ed Wood). Maybe try more experimental things, you never know what'll turn out good. Even shitty movies can be great fun to watch (Plan 9 from Outer Space, Zardoz, Troll 2, Hard Ticket to Hawaii, for example - even big budget movies can be bad, remember that).
>>2573072Or as a full low budget Cinema Camera /B Cam to Larger cameras (see pic). That is a BMPCC next to an Alexa on the set of American Sniper.
I like the idea of using it like that for more relaxed use (and again, I don't see the purpose of the Digital Bolex [I'm not sentimental though, so...]), but I usually rig mine up a bit (or go stealthmode w/cage/top handle+lens).
