1. They're not actually significantly behind. You can barely see the difference in a carefully controlled test shot; you can't see the difference in real world photos not viewed at 100%.
2. You say "behind literally everyone else" as if there's more than one other company seriously making large digital camera sensors at this point. Unless you're saying that they're behind Sigma and their crop foveons which, no, they're really not.
