A ‘work’ of art, regardless of medium, is simply the product of its creators ideas, emotions or series of emotions and experiences. Its audience (if it has one) are free to like it or not, they are free to empathise with it or not. Whatever the audience may feel each individuals reaction to a work is uniquely their own.
Discussing those feelings and reactions with open-minded adults can be a rewarding and stimulating exercise. However, the moment someone tries to claim some kind of intellectual authority over the creative process or a creators intentions, or if they attempt to manipulate the audience response, they reveal themselves to be nothing more than a charlatan.
In short, you are free to have your opinions but if you try to assert those opinions as facts you’re a cunt.
