I do quite a lot of event photography, it's usually rather hard to get an accreditation for that kind of stuff. If you tell them "hi I'm a local student and I'd love to shoot X, the pictures won't get published but I can send them to you for free use" you'll have more luck than "hi I'm anon, I'd love to shoot X, the pictures won't get published but I can send them to you for free use". That way I can build a portfolio and have an easier time to find work once I'm done with university.
