It was a larpers toy for people that were too poor and shit to afford film for how many snapshits they had to burn through to get to one good pic but still wanted the outwards appearance of a rich tourist or art hipster with a leica. It really appealed to girls apparently because everything in a womans life is a fashion statement here in the west.
For real photographers other than homos and white women, micro four thirds, 1" pocket cams, the nikon 1 and pentax Q, etc were always better and because of this the average body of work of a 2023 canon powershot g9x user is better than the average body of work of a 2023 x100* user.
