The only 40mm pancake that's optically any good is the Konica f/1.8 or the current EF 40mm STM.
The Koni's came as kit lenses on T4's so they're common. The T3 is the camera you want though if you like dat full manual Copal Square shutter sexiness and brick shithouse weight like your FTn.
If you just want best pictures and 40mmm focal length though, a cheaper EOS film body and a one owner 40mm shouldn't set you back much more than $100.
