Also, on their legendary build quality myth: it's isn't a myth, and it's true all the way to the AF/AF-D series, even for el cheapo lenses.
Picrelated is three generation of 50mm 1.4 next to each other, the one in the middle, the plastic fantastic AF one, fell from my motorcycle a couple of weeks ago on the St. Gotthard pass, on asphalt, and what you see is the result: few scratches.
The lens isn't decentered, the AF is still lightning fast, better than the modern 50mm 1.4 AF-s that is sitting next to it.
