>>3403197>They're the only one with manufacturing so advanced that they can drop the prices of their lenses to the groundCanon's sensor tech is behind literally everyone else and Nikon Z S glass is looking like it's going to simply outclass anything Canon even has on a roadmap for years to come. I'm talking long game here, a decade out. I don't see Canon doing well due to Sony, and I don't see Sony doing well (in the Pro segment) due to Nikon. OF THESE THREE, Sony will take the hobby and prosumer FF market, Nikon will take the Pro market, and Canon will keep doing things the old way with old customers who are OK with old technology.
But I think all 3 of them will eventually reach a middle ground with the L-mount alliance, which will eventually come to dominate the prosumer segment (thanks to Sigma's inexpensive and high quality lenses) and become a real contender in the Pro stills market (thanks to Leica glass and probably Foveon being the next evolution of sensor tech), while completely and utterly dominating the video market (thanks to Panasonic, who already have that market cornered in the MFT world, as well as announcing that they're going to release an 8k@30p global shutter sensor).
Also, if Pentax (who can corner the ruggedized/weatherized market which Nikon currently enjoys) and/or Olympus (who can compete with the quality of Leica glass on price) joins L-mount, I think it's well and truly be the big 3's walk of shame for a decade or more. We might even see Canon go for a merger or takeover of whichever company in the L alliance suits their business goals best, just to stay relevant.
