>everyone is dropping insane amount of money on their developmentHonestly all people want from a cell phone camera is good low light performance which is why all sensors are stacked and backlit now, thanks to software optimized editing and filters everything (like bokeh and focus) can be handled by the processor. I imagine future phone cameras looking like these "Light" cameras.
