alright if anyone can offer me some advice for zerene stacker, i desperately need that. my STF-8 arrived today and for a test spin i figured i would put the extension tubes i have on my 60mm olympus macro and take some focus stacks of the face of what i believe is a crane fly.
i took some focus stacks with a little different lighting and background and angles and this is the one i liked the most. it's not the clearest but i have a Raynox DCR-250 coming tomorrow that i hope will improve the image quality a lot, i've seen pictures taken with the same macro lens i have with this raynox lens that look really good so i think this mediocre image quality could be from diffraction from the extension tubes or some such thing. we'll see when it gets here.
anyways the problem i'm running into is that zerene stacker will only accept jpg or tiff. the pic on the right is what i get when i don't develop the pictures, i just slightly sharpen. the blacks are crushed to shit and are unrecoverable because they were exported to jpgs to load them into zerene. so i figure ok then i'll develop them first and then load those jpgs into zerene, and then i get the middle image which looks like fucking shit, and again i can't fix it because they were jpgs. the image on the left is how the raws look after i developed them. i've tried exporting as tiff and loading into zerene both undeveloped and developed and i'm getting the same kind of thing.
i have no idea what to do but i'm sure there has to be a solution because i'm sure i've seen people make images with lighting like this that actually look good. i don't know what they're doing different.
