Especially some kind of photography (monuments? landscapes? street photography?) has an finite parameter space (position, opening, lens choice, etc.) and with 6 millions pictures uploaded to Instagram alone, you got to wonder about the "this shot has been played out" question.
One of my favourite architecture photographer is Irene Kung (pic of the Duomo in Milan), but what she does is more than photography and editing, she (digitally) paints over her pictures.
Despite not being a photographer myself I like photography a lot, but I often wonder about the question OP posed:
when I see one, two, one hundred paintings of the same mountain, there is always marvel, amazement, deep inspection (how are the lines, what did the artist omit, brushwork, etc.)
can't say the same with photography of the same mountain: your shot won't stand up, won't create the same marvel as a similar, famous one.
