I also had the 20mm G and the 70-180mm Tamron with me, but at times I only took the 35mm when leaving my hotel and it didn't really feel lacking. That said, if I feel like I'd like a longer FL then I tend to want at least 2x as much at least, so "missing" the 35-70mm range compared to a standard zoom didn't matter for the photos I wanted to take.
Whereas having f1.4 came in useful many times, either for bokeh whoring or night walkarounds.
