One thing that makes it shit and great at the same time is anonymity
People on instagram will never tell you your photos are shit, neither on reddit nor anywhere else
Anonymity allows people to give harsh and truthful criticism and that can be extremely useful if you can filter through all the shit
I don't think gear threads or discussing gear is inherently bad
Gear threads are great for a number of reasons
My complaint is that it shouldn't be basically the only type of thread on the board, the only topic that people engage with
It shouldn't be more central to this board than actually photographs
