I'd say forget technical stuff.
Just start by looking at your shots.
Just love them. Spend time with them. Get to know their character.
Then, reflecting on this, what feeling/flow of feelings do you want?
What rhythms do they have? What do they communicate to the watcher?
Now holding on to that feeling, edit.

but to add to it,
a good artist can make a good drawing with a shitty pencil. A bad artist can barely make a shitty drawing even with a good pencil. Skills > Equipment.
