If you can afford the film, any of the Elan models will serve you right but you'll need lithium batteries for them. Nikon F80 or F100 are great choices too. Don't bother with the low end 90s and 00s SLR models, they offer less manual control and all the disadvantages. If you must go low end get something mechanical so you can at least have some advantage over high end 90s ones.
In that case you have really cool stuff like the blacked-out Pentax Spotmatics. Pic related. Yellow lens is that way because of radioactive decay, don't breathe the dust. It can be cleared out with UV (sunlight).
