>slap camera on tripod>manually focus lens (using focus zoom)>crank up shutter speed, iso, open ISO wide>set shutter on 2-second timer>press button and hang out for 15 seconds>check image to make sure you got all your settings right.The most difficult thing is getting the manual focus down.
Now if you want to go full autism with tracking mounts, image stacking, etc. there's room to do that, but it's really not needed for things like milky way shots.
