1. Why do I often see street photography photos taken with around f/3.5-f/5.6, especially on compact cameras? Is this simply due to the necessity of more light + a faster shutter speed required when moving around, and in the case of compact cameras because it's all that can be built into them?
2. A common gripe I have with my current camera, which I've been using for a long time, is that it often misses focus and will focus on something random in the image instead of the subject. Pic related is an example. I've attempted to do manual focus but this doesn't feel viable when I use it for anything outside of controlled environments; I cannot determine on my camera's screen if something is properly in focus unless I start pixel peeping with live view 5x, and this obviously isn't practical if I'm walking around trying to take photos of people. I've also tried shooting at smaller apatures to compensate for when the focus is just slightly off, but this doesn't always work either. Is there any trick to fixing or at least compensating for this? I made a thread a little while ago about getting a new body but I'm just waiting for a deal to pop up.
