>>4310139It may sound like it, but to me b&w is much easier, yeah there are more variables but it's also relatively much much more tolerant to being off in your temps and times.
Also I fucking hate temperature control of non-one shot developers. In 20 years of doing b&w I only mixed one powder developer (ID-11, last year), and it sucked cooling it to 20°C each time (it was a hot summer). But it didn't suck anywhere near to how much it sucked to heat CD and Blix to 39° just now, I must have used an olympic pool's worth of hottest water I had on tap to get there. And even with vigorous mixing by hand there was a 5° difference between one end of the bathtub and the other.
I definitely need to get a sous vide dildo before I do it next time. Or maybe I'll just microwave...
One-shot developers win each time, and I can easily get stable 20°C straight out of tap. 99.9% of my stuff is HC-110 and Rodinal. Also lately I've been coming to a conclusion that 1 hour stand dev in 1+100 Rodinal is the true standard b&w process. Yeah, all the "wet" steps of C41 take 15 minutes altogether (1-hour photo used to be a thing after all), but it's like running a relay race all by yourself. I'd rather just chill with a book or do some chores for an hour, and not worry about things imploding because developer got 0.15 degrees hotter or colder than the "standard".
>>4310145Cheers, you too! Have you been doing C41 at home for long? Got any advice to make it easier?
