>>3463353>Aperture is too small too. F/5.6-8 is fine for the vast majority of street in daylight when you want decent depth of field. I *was* shooting f/8. I'm not good enough at judging distances to zone focus at f/5.6 yet. Leicas don't have any sort of aperture coupling with the lens, so they just sort of take a guess on the aperture when they write the exif--I'm not sure what algorithm they use to figure it out, but it's not quite perfect. I took three shots without touching my lens and they report f/8, f/11, and f/9.5 in the exif. Pic (and exif) related.
Shutter speed of 1/2000 was a mistake. I meant to put it on 1/1000. I knew that 1/125 was too slow from my previous outing, and I knew 1/1000th would be fast enough, but I was mainly focusing (so to speak) on zone focusing and framing from the hip today, so my thought was to just stick it in a shutter speed I knew would be fast enough, then maybe bring it down from there on subsequent outings if it worked. These two shots were the first two shots I took before I noticed it was 1/2000th and brought it down a stop.
>So the benefits of manual mode, control of the amount of motion blur, depth of field, amount of noise, and overall exposure aren't being interacted with, so why shoot manual?Well, first off, as explained, I *was* being conscious of my settings. It's a Leica, so the only options are aperture priority or full manual, and aperture priority definitely wouldn't give a shutter speed fast enough for street, so I had to do full manual.
> More importantly, making these choices quickly is a skill that takes time and directed effort to develop... and that's exactly what I was working on. I just happened to kind of like one of the practice shots I took, so I posted it.
