I bought a Super Tak 35mm f2 lens and I want to use it on my Pentax MX body. I'm planning to buy an (official Pentax) adapter to achieve this.
do you think I can get good results with this combination? what are some issues I might run into?
I've been trying to read about stop-down metering for a start, but I'm having trouble grasping the concept.
so far I understand that in normal use with a K-mount lens, the MX body will meter accurately for your selected f-stop without actually stopping down the aperture blades until just before the moment the shutter fires. in this way, the viewfinder will be well-lit, because the aperture blades remain wide open until the last moment. this is made possible by the feature called an automatic diaphragm.
I also understand that the use of an adapter and a non-K mount lens will not allow the diaphragm to do its job. this means that as I stop down, the viewfinder will grow dim.
so, to stop-down meter, you
>set the Super Tak's switch to 'manual'
>open the aperture to its widest stop
>set the desired shutter speed
>look through the viewfinder
>focus on your subject
>half-depress the shutter and stop down until the camera meters the correct exposure (the viewfinder will be too dim now to focus effectively)
>depress the shutter
is that it? so all you have to do is remember to revert to wide open if you need to meter. to be honest I mostly guess & shoot for overexposure anyway. I'm not sure how much I trust the MX's meter in anything except ideal light. so what's the big deal? why do I keep hearing about this 'disadvantage'?
also, if I flick the Tak's switch to 'automatic', it seems to go to the widest aperture. will this switch function the same way once the lens is mounted? if so, that is pretty handy.
