240 ppi is about optimal for a real world photograph. Only a very small percentage of people can observe any difference as you go higher, and even then only with high contrast details.
300 ppi is a meme left over from 1980's laser printers and has shit all to do with modern printing or photography.
600 ppi is very good for monochromatic line art.
Sharp eyed viewers can still observe differences in monochromatic line art to 1200 ppi.
