I used to shoot a blue-sensitive "x-ray" film that was used for making copies of CT scans from screens. Now I use a mammography film instead, since the old film is no longer produced.
Both films are orthochromatic, though unlike similar films marketed for artistic purposes, they render continuous tones effectively and don't possess blasted contrast (although it is still higher contrast than normal BW, I'd say). They are set apart from other x-ray films by having only one side coated with emulsion; a higher degree of image acuity, and an anti-halation layer. Most of the strangeness of the experience comes from having to cut the negatives down from 24x30cm to 4x5. I perform this task assiduously in complete darkness with an art guillotine and a guide negative.
