I have a Nikon D5500, with the basic 18-55mm and 70-300mm kit lenses, and I've been learning photography since August. I mostly shoot storms and birds/local wildlife. No street, no portraits. The occasional astronomical event like the Christmas Star from late last year.
This camera is just good enough to learn with, the telephoto lens in particular is really fun, but it's all just limited enough for me to constantly covet other cameras and lenses. I've been in a gear frenzy lately because I finally got my long awaited stimmy, and it's driving me insane. I am always thinking about how I'm going to upgrade, but even then I just want a more capable body, a bit faster and sharper wide/standard lens, and a solid telephoto for birds. I don't need 5 or 6 lenses.
Maybe even just a D7500. The weather sealing would be nice. Or I'd go for a used X-T2 right now, could get it for about what I paid for this, but it looks like Fuji doesn't have the best telephoto selection, so I'm hesitant.
I also have a Panasonic Lumix ZS100 1" sensor compact that I use for work but it can churn out some more than solid photos itself.
