Nice for portraits at min. focus distance with enough of the surroundings to create context, but, as you wrote, also nice for groups. I'm not a fan of 28mm, but wider can look very good if you get close enough - great for cramped city centers and other busy environments. I enjoy using a 21mm combined with a flash. Unfortunately flash sync is 1/50s making it difficult to use flash during the summer when it's quite bright outside.
