Don't get me wrong, it's a great image as it is, but since you're asking about rich colors I thought I might as well, as I have a particular fetish for exactly this.
I used the levels tool and brought the mid point to the left until the histogram was evenly spread. Then I used a curves to do an S shape with an anchor at 127,127. Then I went back to the levels and moved the white output point back and forth just a bit until it looked right, and saved it. Since I was editing an sRGB jpeg, there was no need to do any special saturation stuff, but if it was a raw file I would do what I mentioned before in the last post.
