A "prosumer camera" from 2004 with 12mp, AFC (wild), with a 24-70 kit lens is good enough to take photos in a studio with and parents buy it not noticing it was taken on something so old. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Although for their yearbook photos they use newer cameras such as the Lumix GH5 for the dual card slots and use the Leica 12-60mm lens with a one light setup.
