Why do smaller sensor formats perform worse in low light? Why doesn't an M43 image look just like an appropriately cropped FF image, all else equal? You're taking a smaller image, so a smaller surface area, so less total light is required, but why is the light intensity / sensitivity different? Shouldn't the light intensity be equal, with M43 just a smaller area absorbing light? It's kind of like when you burn ants with a magnifying glass, but rather than an ant we have sensors. Why would a full frame ant burn quicker than an M43 one?
