But if you get the chance to acquire a SLR do it by all means. Even if it's something like a measly Minolta SRT-101 or Zenit 12XP. The creative control they afford you is superior. You can do pretty much every technique you can read about on a photography book with those, save for sophisticated stuff like second curtain flash.
