I loved the F5 for that, though I never owned one
I also regret never buying the 80-200 2.8 AF-s, probably the most magical lens I have ever shot. It came out when people still cared about character and before pixl peepers looking for absolute sharpness

its rare as fuck on the used market now and way too extensive

my main goal is: versatility for tele and a good QI for portraits. with this 2.8 I had the sweet 135mm spot, but I don't know if a 50mm1.4 would be better
